Wacom Cintiq 24HD Touch PN#DTH2400I've been using it for 8 months (Sep. 2013 since buying it in January) to really get a feel for it. I use my Wacom Cintiq 24HD Touch PN#DTH2400 for 2D & 3D programs extensively (60/40 split).
Environment:
You need a large, independent work space. The base of this thing just takes up too much room. I've scratched my desk already moving it forward/backward when not in use & using it as a monitor. Also, I think some type of 'U' design for the base would have been more beneficial and allow me to utilize more of my space and put my stuff under the screen.
Screen:
The screen isn't that bright and it is quite frustrating. I actually had to change my work environment (see pic with windows behind my monitor) where I loved windows, etc to more black-out shades (to pull down behind & around) and less natural light. I also can't wear light-colored clothing in front of the screen because then you see the glare/reflection when you sit in front of it. Screen is fragile and seems cheap--I'm scared to death that it may scratch like others have mentioned. I did put on a POSRUS Antiglare Touch Screen Protector for Wacom Cintiq 24HD Pen Display DTK2400.
Functionality:
Yes, it's Wacom's old innovation and restricting patents that work well so yes, it is a pretty cool device; however, I wish i could selectively 'block' areas of the screen to DISABLE touch. Yes, you CAN disable touch on the entire screen but that's not my use-case. For example, when I'm sculpting in Maya, the screen will still jerk to the touch of my palm from where my pen was moving CVs. It doesn't discern palm-to-finger-to-pen differences. The CV (and many around it) will randomly jerk to where the outside-edge of my resting wrist is... It is really frustrating to fix some of these things. I'd like to selectively enable an area for touch ONLY where my palette &/or tools for my software are located, when I want - and not in the sculpting/drawing space. I have even purchased a smudgeguard 2-fingered glove that protects the side of my hand from touching the screen when drawing but as it gets moist from a long day then it even still starts to register the touch again.
Fan: I don't really hear or notice my fan like others.
Is it worth it & why it's a 3 star review.
Not for me; I'd go for the cheaper version and use a 3DConnexion SpaceMouse Pro in conjunction with the non-touch version for 3D program users or just your mouse/apple multitouch pad for 2D users. Touch on this is not that useful. From a ergonomics perspective, I find it more natural to have my left hand under the screen on my SpaceMouse Pro to rotate/zoom/pan and use those buttons for shortcuts. I use my right hand on the built-in wacom buttons and with my pen. $1000+ is not worth touch and the slightly better color gamut.
If I had it to do again, I'd swallow my get-the-greatest-thing-ever-pride and opt for the non-touch version. Based on my extensive use of this product and knowing what the non-touch version is like due to my teammates having it, I would give the Cintiq non-touch version 4.5 stars.
If you work in 3D programs, I'd go buy non-touch Cintiq & the combo below:
Wacom Cintiq 24HD Graphic Monitor (CINTIQ24HD)
AND
3Dconnexion 3DX-700040 SpaceMouse Pro 3D Mouse
or
3Dconnexion 3DX-700028 SpaceNavigator 3D Mouse
Enjoy the work you do, y'all! Be creative & have fun.
