Vortex Optics Viper HS 4-16x44 Riflescope w/ Dead-Hold BDC Reticle VHS-4305 Review

The scopes performance is awesome. In my opinion and experience, it is better than the Nikon Buckmaster 6x18. It has a better eye box and longer eye relief. The crosshairs are noticeably thinner than Nikons which is nice because it allows you to see more of whats around the target/ object. It doesn't get in the way of viewing the target. Being a 30mm tube, it is noticeably brighter so I can't really compare than to the Buckmaster. However, the 1" Crossfire II that I have is brighter than the Buckmaster. I have long arms and need to add 1 1/2" to the stock so it pushes my whole frame back. I had to really lay into the stock to get a good picture with the Buckmaster that was mounted as far back as it could be. The large eye relief that all Vortex scopes have works great for me. Still mounted as far back as it can be, but I am not straining my neck to get in the box. The Long Range Ballistic Calculator on their website is a great supplemental tool. I like that you can can save your cartridges with your account so you can pull them up on any computer w/internet. The ability to add spin drift and coriolis is awesome. The calculator (operated by G7) is fairly accurate and prints nice reference cards. I would highly recommend Vortex. I have the HS-T on a Sig 716, Crossfire II on a .300 Blackout, and this HS on an X-bolt 25/06. I had one problem with the Crossfire II and Vortex repaired it without question or cost to me. It only took a week from when I dropped it off at Fedex to when I got it back.

Understanding that there are many factors involved, the 716 is printing .5 moa @ 200 yards consistently after installing the HS-T. For fairness- I'm shooting 168gr Custom Comp on 43g Varget with Nato FC&LC once fired brass.
