The only real significant difference between the XR and HD version is the that the XR lacks the two fine tuning knobs (moves your camera back and forth and side to side). Unless you have a lot of time and patience (and will never use this device for a live event), I recommend buying the HD-2000. My biggest gripe is that every time you want to re-balance the XR-2000 (and you will do this a lot), you have to move the camera mounting plate forward and aft and side to side by sliding/pushing it with your hand. Try moving the plate when you have a 2-5 pound camera + accessories and it is sitting on your arm and vest. The fine tuning knobs alone will save you so much time and frustration. Yes, I sent the XR-2000 back and exchanged it the HD-2000 and I'm really happy now. I'm flying the HD-2000 with my Nikon D7000 and planning to use my Canon XHA1S next.
