I simply love it. It is great quality, highly accurate, and records clear clean sound. I have worked with some other microphones and I have always found something I was not happy with. I've had this one for almost a year and I have no complaints. It picks up sound well, and is clean. The bass is good and solid and voices do not sound hollow or flat. It can be battery powered or phantom (using camera power if you camera supports it.) I have only used the phantom power and I have never picked up a hiss, static, buzz, or too much ambient white noise. I hear microphones pick up more of that if they are on battery power, but I am very happy with it.

Pros:
Clean crisp sound devoid of hiss, buzz, or static.
Acceptable price, more then others, but well worth it.
Options for Battery or Phantom power.

Cons:
Does not come with a shoe mount, but those are easily bought.
A little long, but not really a big deal.

If mine broke today, I'd order a new one exactly the same right away, it is the best you can get without going into thousands of dollars.

This is the first "Big Name" pure SSD drive from a mainly hard disk manufacturer. Up to now they have all come from memory, chip (Intel) or flash drive (SD, USB thumb drive, etc) manufacturers. Samsung makes more memory, flat screens, and other "stuff) than hard drives, so I put them in the memory/chip manufacturer category. Their SSD's are also excellent.

The drive itself is quite thin. This is the 7mm version and it's also available in the ultra-thin 5mm thckness. It should work well in most ultra-thin laptops. The idle (1W) power consumption is more like a conventional 5400rpm drive so battery life in Laptops and mobile devices may not be helped much.

I'm thinking that in the speed vs power tradeoff, Seagate went for power. This might be a better choice for a desktop where power savings isn't so important.

I just installed the 480GB ST480HM000 for a client in a Dell Precision laptop. It is a very fast drive. I own a Sandisk Extreme purchased fall 2012 in my own Dell Precision laptop and this drive is noticeably faster out of the box. Both are on Windows 7 64bit with 8GB or better RAM.

My continuing concern with SSD hard drives is the flash memory has limited lifetime with writes. This concern decreases as the technology improves over time and I expect this SSD will be better than the older one in my own laptop.

Installation was simple. I used the (Apricorn DriveWire USB 2.0 to IDE/PATA/SATA Universal Hard Drive Adapter ADW-USB-KIT (Red) to clone the client's old drive. I got the latest version of the EZ-GIG copying software (4.13 at this time). EZGig and Apricorn make the cloning process simple but is flexible for custom layout changes.

The only issue I had in cloning the drive was I needing to change the drive mode in the BIOS to IDE instead of ACHI. After the drive was cloned I was able to install the drive and change the bios setting back to ACHI. This drive was not recognized until I did this.

I'll update this review in a few weeks as the drive gets settled-in on my client's PC.

Update Aug 17 2013:

The Seagate 600 I installed is still operating well and without the noticeable slowdown that sometimes seems to happen with SSD drives over time. It is operating completely uneventfully.

Update August 20, 2013:

A note about warranty and OEM drives.

I was called today by Bryce Stoops of the Seagate Corporate Escalations Team. We had a good conversation and he clarified Seagate's OEM Policy and how it is supposed to work. What Seagate means by a OEM drive is the drive is sold to a systems integrator like Dell or HP and they have an agreement where all warranty claims go through the integrator. These drives sometimes have custom firmware.

The "bare drives" typically sold by Amazon are not OEM drives. Third parties selling through Amazon may sell them, for example, from a manufacturers excess stock.

This became an issue for me when I had warranty problems reported in my review of the Seagate Momentus XT 750GB ST750LX003. These were eventually resolved, but made it certain that warranty matters when things go wrong.

Seagate drives are great, when they work.

Canon EF 100mm f/2 USM Telephoto Lens for Canon SLR Cameras Review

I love this lens. I'd previously tried a friend's and was quite impressed with the sharpness from f2.2/2.5 onward, and the bokeh around f2.8/3.2. Upon purchasing the lens, I was overjoyed to discover both better sharpness (impressive wide open and just great by 2.2/2.5 in most circumstances) and smoother bokeh. I've also done some comparing of my lens with an 85mm f/1.8 that I used to own and I'm quite a bit more impressed with the CA performance at wide apertures with the 100mm than with the 85mm: at f/2, CA is present in high contrast situations, but not nearly as bad as with my 85mm; by f/2.5-2.8, the CA is already greatly reduced; and, by f/3.2-4, it's nearly absent. For a non-L, the contrast and color are great, as well. For the cost, size, and capability, I have yet to use a more impressive prime!

Tamron AF 17-50mm F/2.8 SP XR Di II VC (Vibration Compensation) Zoom Lens for Canon Digital SLR Cameras Review

I'm a pure Canon lens user for the past 3.5 years. Currently using EOS 40D. This is my very first third party lens & initially was quite skeptical. After thinking it over, I went ahead to give it a try because I can't afford the Canon EF-S 17-55mm f/2.8 IS USM.

After playing with the new Tamron lens for almost two weeks, here's some of my 2 cent comments:

Good News first (wow so many don't know where to begin):

-Great optical performance! All photos taken are really sharp.
-Accurate, consider fast and consistent autofocus.
-Zoom ring isn't cramped or stiff, easy to turn (opposite direction of Canon lens).
-Surprisingly at 17mm I hardly can see any barrel distortion!
-I can't detect any chromatic aberration & Vignette problem. All photos look clean & accurate. But it doesn't mean they are not there. Maybe I need to get my eyes checked. :-)
-Nice weight (lighter than my Canon 24-105L) & feel, will be my new walkaround lens.
-AF is noisier than Canon USM. It sounds like soft "mechanical turning & twisting". Some photographers may find this annoying but I'm perfectly alright with this. It's not too loud & certainly won't disttract your subject or model. In fact, I'm getting used to the sound & feel good knowing my lens is working properly (see below too).
-Manual focusing is easy to use.
-AF is fast & accurate, so you can hardly hear the AF noise except under extreme low light situation (the AF is a bit tad slow & the noise is more obvious).
-Bokeh. I love it!
-The Vibration Control VC feature is also great & I can go down really low & pic still sharp.
-Sharpness of this Tamron lens is at par with my Canon 24-105L. On color comparison, I find Tamron produces a bit more saturate & brighter.

Bad News (hmm...I have to think of some negatives because no lens are perfect):

-The focal length lock is a nice feature & but it can only lock at 17mm. Would be nice if it can also lock at other focal length.
-No manual booklet. Only a piece of info sheet in Japanese. There's no English version.
-Hmm...at f/2.8 photo results are slightly darker than other aperture used. I tried both AV & Manual mode but still the same. No big deal, I can use the exposure compensation.
-Also at open wide f/2.80 image is slightly softer but super tack sharp once reach f/4.0.

Overall View: Well done Tamron! It's light-weight and has a fast maximum aperture of f/2.8 for shooting in low-light, this is a solid lens. At 50% cheaper than Canon EF-S 17-55mm f/2.8 IS USM & with great IQ, will use the amount saved on other camera accessories. I'm as happy as a Jolly Bee, have totally no gripe at all.

I do not hesitate to recommend this lens for anyone who wants a fast, constant aperture, light-weight standard zoom lens. The image quality is great and the VC works good.
