BenQ W7000 300-Inches 1080p Cinema Quality Home Projection System -Black Review
I'll admit that I'm used to TVs as I was sold on their silent operation, relatively deep blacks, and uncomplicated, watch even in complete daylight viewing opportunities. I have a 60" Sharp Elite set, which was considered the spare-no-expense best TV on the market when it first came out, so I have pretty high expectations when it comes to picture quality. That said, this projector has helped me come around a little bit as I ended up being VERY impressed with many aspects of its performance.Projectors are all about BIG picture and I found that came with inherent advantages. Not only do you get to see more detail in the picture because of the size, I found that you also get much more profound 3D effects, and movies that rely on atmosphere and scenery REALLY benefit from the big screen, which pulls you into the environment more than a relatively small TV.
For what it's worth, this projector in particular is pretty kick-butt. While seeing what others thought about the projector, I discovered that PC World Australia named the W7000 "editor's choice", saying it easily competed with a projector costing hundreds more.
They and I especially liked the 2000 lumen brightness which, while not enough to project during the day outdoors, is enough to project a decent 1080p image even in a room that isn't completely darkened (see my customer image for an example, but please ignore the messy room). The picture looks better in a darkened, light controlled room of course, but you'll easily be able to get away with using this projector in a room that is less than pitch black.
Lights on or off colors are vivid and bright, and I found I could dial in the accuracy pretty well using Disney WOW: World of Wonder [Blu-ray] to calibrate.
Now that I've had a chance to spend some time with the projector with my wife and five kids, I found it's a little hard to watch my TV sometimes! The downside of the W7000 is that you have to deal with a bit of fan noise (which can be slightly mitigated by using economy mode), but the kids beg for the big screen and there are certain movies (3D especially) that sing more than on my (more expensive) TV! My 3D reference disk Hugo came to life in a whole new way with the W7000 and the colorful Ponyo Blu-ray made me feel as though I visited the seaside Japanese village in the film for the first time (despite having watched the film half a dozen times on my TV)!
In short, I'm hooked, and strongly recommend the W7000 to anyone looking for a projector in this price range! The 3D is excellent (PC World Australia called it "class leading"), the picture is great and the experience is generally a hoot.
