After having sub-par projectors supplied by clients ruin a couple of training classes, I decided to take matters into my own hands. After a fair amount of research, I got one of these to take on the road with me for most of my seminars and training classes. It is just terrific. It weighs less and is smaller than either of my 15.4 inch laptops.
It shines on ease of use. Plug everything together, focus and zoom, and you're done. Focus and zoom buttons are right on the unit, or you can use the remote control. Keystone correction is automatic, done whenever you adjust the well-designed foot that comes out of the bottom of the unit. If by chance you need to do manual keystone adjustment, or indeed pretty much anything else, the on-screen menus are easy to understand and use.
Even the lens cover shows good usability design. It's tethered so you won't lose it, and it uses a magnet to attach so there's no snapping involved. As long as the unit is in the supplied case, the lens cover stays in place very well, though it's pretty easy to accidentally knock it off when the unit is out of the case.
Speaking of the supplied case, I was surprised to see it when I opened the box. The Amazon product description didn't mention it. It's clearly not the most durable thing in the world, but for wrapping the unit for travel inside another bag, it's more than adequate. I uploaded a picture showing the unit inside the case, alongside a CD jewel case to give a sense of scale.
The max resolution is 1280x800, which is a good widescreen option for most purposes. Sure, I'd love it to be 1600x900, but I can't find an easily portable projector that goes that high.
All the projectors I could find with higher resolution were bulb-based, which makes them more fragile and raises the cost of usage. This unit has no bulb. It uses LED technology instead, which is more reliable, resistant to bumps and drops during travel, and lasts longer.
You might think that without a bulb brightness would be a problem, but it's not. Sure, I've seen brighter bulb projectors (and if the client has one, I'll use it), but this is easily bright enough for groups up to about 100 people in normal meeting rooms. If you're into specs, it's 3000 lumens.
Color was very good. Nice, rich, and matched my laptop screen (Lenovo W520 15.4 inch) quite well.
You might want a longer VGA cable. The supplied cable is only six feet. I use a VGA switcher (Manual VGA Switch Model MT-15-2C) with two additional six feet cables for my classes, and that extends the reach enough for me.
I compared this unit to the other Casio projectors in this product line. This one won for me because it's the least expensive with the brightest capacity of 3000 lumens. There are some other, cheaper models with only 2500 lumens, and there's a more expensive model with some wireless capability. But this one hit the sweet spot for me.
