In the world of cloud computing, the day of the $10k server is going the way of the dinosaur. The TS130 is a very solid entry-level server for small companies that don't have a need for a beastly traditional Windows Server. It comes with 2012 Foundation x64, which allows for up to 15 concurrent users, and has a solid Gigabit Ethernet controller. I generally slap an additional 4 or 12GB of RAM in them as I don't really feel that Windows Server architecture is conservative enough with physical RAM usage.

This TS130 comes standard with a pair of 500GB hard drives (7200RPM SATA) configured in a hardware RAID-1 (controller is on board and supports RAID-0, RAID-1, and I believe RAID-6, but don't quote me on that). If you want to run RAID-5, you'll need a separate hardware controller.

It runs quietly and has a very small (Micro Tower) footprint. The Xeon E2 CPU provides plenty of power for 15 or fewer users. If you intend to use it strictly as an application server, you might want to step up the CPU as the E2 is a very modest, entry-level Xeon processor.

That all being said, I believe we've installed about 10 of these and so far I've had no complaints or issues.
