I work in streaming media, and this unit actually lifts some barriers when it comes to live transmission. Typically, we'd need a computer, a video capture card, and software in order to stream live. This can cost anywhere from $2500 for a PC with wirecast and a blackmagic ultrastudio (thunderbolt), which a PC laptop with thunderbolt isn't the most common thing around, and $25,000 for a tricaster. Sure, the tricaster has a lot more features and such, with multiple inputs acting as a switcher, but a lot of the time, we'll have a switcher on-site, and we'll only need to transmit a program feed.

We have a custom built platform that accepts RTMP and WMV streams (hence why I can't use a mac at times), and this unit actually works beautifully with it. It's a bit sluggish, at times, but once it's connected, it works. It's great to be able to remote into it to change settings, paths, and profiles. It doesn't allow you to completely customize your profiles, but the presets work decent enough. We've decided to start buying these as back-ups to our primary field systems, and have recommended some clients to buy them as well. At $700, you can't beat it. This unit works wirelessly, but also has an ethernet port, which is almost always required when streaming live video. This unit can utilize a 4g connection with a usb dongle as well, but I haven't tested that.

The only drawback, which isn't really a drawback, is that the unit only has an HDMI input. Keep in mind that the Teradek Cube (more expensive model) can take an HDSDI feed, or you can get any number of converters out there.

I would definitely recommend this as a prosumer/backup, or even a professional primary unit for someone who knows what they're doing. The quality is actually pretty great, but with any technology, you have to be ready to troubleshoot a bit when things go a little haywire.
