Product Description
The Phottix Odin TTL Flash Trigger for Nikon (2 Receivers) consists of an on-camera transmitter and control unit (TCU) and receiver units for compatible hot shoe flashes. The Odin offers photographers four wireless channels and three flash control group designations. Flashes can be controlled in TTL ratio modes A:B with EV +/- adjustments of three stops. What makes the Phottix Odin unique is the ability to designate groups in TTL/Mixed mode. Individual groups, A, B, C, can also be controlled in TTL mode with EV +/- adjustments. Groups can also be set to Manual mode, adjusting power levels remotely, or turned off. The four-channel, 2.4 GHz, transmitter and receiver units work at ranges of more than 100 meters and accept AA batteries. Phottix Odin TTL Flash Trigger sets with a TCU and Receiver will be available, as will as individual receivers.Phottix Odin TTL Flash Trigger for Nikon, 2 Receivers Review
I bought a transmitter and 3 triggers and use them for both portrait lighting and indoor sports. They work great, I've been using them for 6 months now and never had any sync issues or misfires. They do have very long range, which doesn't matter much for studio work but it's nice when I'm shooting sports and have flashes spread out around a venue. They also work smoothly with high speed sync, and mixing TTL and manual is nice. Basically they do everything phottix claims they do and are very reliable.
I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 because there are a few things that could make it better in my eyes:
-Needs more channels. They only have 4 channels, which doesn't matter to me the vast majority of the time, but at large events with lots of photogs this might be an issue.
-Changing power levels and modes through the LCD menu system works fine, but it can be a little slow. Using tactile switches or dials might be faster.
-Would be nice if the transmitter had a hotshoe on top to use an on camera flash as well.
