Leica Rangemaster CRF 1000-R Review

There are two ways to assess laser rangefinders; features and readability. This particular Leica falls short in neither category. First of all, the Leica really preforms exceptionally well in bright daylight measurements, low reflective surfaces, and angled planes. Most rangefinders will give you a number when the conditions are perfect (or inside a store), but the better (usually more expensive) the rangefinder, the more tolerance it has for light, angles, and lower reflective surfaces--the latter being a big deal when ranging animals. In fact, there are fewer greater disappointments in life than a persnickety rangefinder.

This rangemaster will also calculate a vertical component for uphill or downhill long distance shooting as well as give you the number of degrees. The reason for the EHr (in Leica lingo) is to offset the effects of gravity on upward or downward shots. When shooting down, gravity has less effect because the bullet is already going down. The effect is greater when shooting up. Since most folks sight in their rifle horizontally, one must use a horizontal equivalent range to keep the bullet on target.

I appreciate the clarity of the optics and compare this glass to anything less expensive and it becomes painfully clear that Leica knows optics. The 7x monocular has value in its own right and comes in handy even when not ranging. I have read distances over 1060 yards. But you really need a building or other large object when out at that distance. You could fit a few deer into the red sighting box at a thousand yards.

The build quality is fabulous, and the operation is simple. Some might complain that Leica is stuck in LED lala-land instead of LCD display (I know that is a redundant D), and to a certain extent, I would agree. But if a device is not packed with extraneous features, the LED read is bright, obvious, and in no need of backlighting.

This unit is surprisingly light (6.3 ounces), durable (carbon fiber reinforced plastic and metal), and feels great in the hand (external rubber coating). The CRF stands for compact range finder, and while not the smallest rangefinder in the case, it is small enough and light enough to make smaller and lighter pretty much a non-issue. If you want to buy something small, then know you are sacrificing something somewhere else. The -R (dash R) denotes that this model has the angle readout and EHr compared to the previous model which lacked those latter features.

I am no fan of the CR2 battery. A 123 would be better and more popular in high end flashlights and weapons sights. Also easier to find at the Twodot, Montana gas station as well, only made worse since I own nothing else that uses this same battery. This rangefinder is rated to about 2000 measurement per battery. The instructions state that you will get a blinking indication that the battery is in need of attention. When that happens, you have 100 or so measurements left in the battery, but you will progressively loose range due to lower laser power.

So if you need a more elaborate feature set, there are other rangefinders. However I've heard stories where hunters in the heat of the moment push a menu button taking their rangefinder into something more like a Windows install submenu then a firm distance number. But if you need accuracy, daylight use, and unparalleled durability, the Leica is the only option...except maybe for Swarovski, but it costs more, weighs more, takes up more space, and has a ridiculously long delay when taking a reading. But hey, some think Swaro's gold bird logo is cooler than the Leica red dot.

For my two new Synology DS1512+ the best choice ever! They are 24/7 Hard-drive - pretty awesome, quiet and the best I ever did order. As IT Engineer I had to handle a 10th of thousand of Hard-drives in my life and for my own Synology 1512+ I did choose the very best I have tested. I really hope they'll work for me in the long run, as I have experienced it with many others. Quit, stable and you can count on them whatever happen. Until now more then perfect! Really! I will follow up this review with month between - how they are operating with heavy stuff 24/7 and will measure the performance over time. Now they are outrages fast and together with the best NAS we have in 2013 - just excellent and now also affordable.

i was looking for a gaming computer when i ran across this one.It has everything i was looking for. Good graphics card, big hard drive, decent memory. We received them on the promised delivery date. They were packed very well and arrived without incident. Got them hooked up and started gaming right away. It fired up quickly. Ooh baby are the graphics smooth. It plays all the games i play on the highest setting very well. IF you are looking to get a mid lvl gaming computer at a great price, i would highly recommend this one. The fans are much quieter than i had expected and do a nice job of keeping everything cool. It came with the wireless adapter, which was a surprise because it wasnt listed in the specs. Only downfall was it came with very little set up instructions. No quick set up guide. Not a huge problem, but thought it should be mentioned. Highly recommend it.

TCL LE55FHDF3310TA 55-Inch 1080p 120Hz LED HDTV (Black) Review

Purchased this model from bestbuy for $399, believe it was on amazon for the same price.

Pros:
- Absurdly low price
- Slim Bezel, generally attractive low key aesthetics
- Loud (but standard quality) Speakers
- No problems with build or design quality (no dead/stuck pixels, no light leaking, etc.)
- Nice deep blacks, great image quality overall
- 3 HDMI

Cons (many of these are obvious artifacts of the low price):
- Not real 120hz (like almost every TV that claims 120hz), but rather frame interpolation. It is 60hz. No noticable effect on high def files/streaming so far. Although I haven't watched sports on it.
- No ethernet or wireless card
- Sufficient but limited connections, noticeably missing was optical audio out
- Colors cannot manually be adjusted (RGB), there are three color settings, "Normal/Warm/Cool." For the price, I was surprised any of these settings were accurate. The default color setting (normal) was relatively accurate, but the warm setting was functionally perfect. Therefore I ultimately chose the warm setting for color accuracy and then modified the other image settings to turn the highly accurate warn setting into my personal preference of slightly cool coloring (similar to the default scheme you would see on many samsung LCD computer monitors). BOTTOM LINE - More control is always better, but you can get an image with this tv that is highly accuratem, although it takes a bit of doing (also sharpness is absurdly high by default on this thing).

For $399 and free shipping, I basically consider this an absurd windfall that I was able to obtain simply due to the previously mediocre reviews of TCL (or its relative obscurity in general in the USA). This is a damn fine TV, and outstrips many many others I have seen in terms of image quality and color accuracy (despite not having manual RGB controls). If this thing goes on sale again, I would jump on it.

And hell, its a two year warranty just in case. But you are getting almost 50 inches for $400-500. It's hard to complain.
