I heard a lot of horror stories about this product, but I decided to turn the other cheek and check it out for myself. The package arrived in pristine condition, with everything included. Installation was very easy (and my computer doesn't open programs such as this, so I had to install it manually myself, by actually searching through the disk's folders, and clicking on the drivers.) This was very easy to do, as the folders were organized. The only thing that confused me, was the general setting up of the device (switching the monitors and such), but that's just because I'm clueless. it's actually very easy.XDIn the beginning, I had some trouble with clicking, such as when I would double click, it wouldn't select what I wanted, and had to press the pen's select button. The problem seemed to fix itself, as it stopped.
I fiddled around in Photoshop Elements 10, which took to the program swimmingly. At times, there'd be lag, where it'd take a second or two for the command to catch up with my cursor. This didn't bother me at all, (I mean, it's not like it took more than 5 seconds) I noticed that, the further you're zoomed out, the more jitter you have. I did a sketch, where I was zoomed out at less than 70%, and when I zoomed in, the lines were crazy jagged (not that it mattered, as it was a sketch). Who draws a final copy from that magnification anyway?
I've been using this little tablet in my lap since I got it earlier today, as it's quite comfortable to hold. I like positioning it like a sketchbook, against both my legs. The power cable is long enough for me to do this, but I can see why others may complain about the length, especially if they're working at a desk with a bulky desktop computer.
When holding it at an angle, your image will wash out, or look darker (like a laptop screen) you can see this effect by looking at your laptop's screen at different angles. You know how you position your screen to where you like it? Well, move it, and you'll see the color change. This didn't bother me either, as even if the color changed, I knew what color I picked from my selection tool.
Hmm..I think that's it. I'm generally a really laid-back person, so the cons listed really didn't irk me, I personally believe they are outweighed by the pros.
Maybe I'm just too content with everything. XD
Oh! I did try working in Manga Studio EX 4, which also reacted very well, and shared its pros and cons with what I listed. C:
I should also probably mention that this is my very first tablet (other than Wacom's brand, which don't give you the ability to draw on an actual screen), so that may also make my review a tad biased.
Nevertheless, I recommend this product, especially if you're on a budget (I know you're probably here, because, like me, you can't afford a Cintiq). It truly is a great alternative!
