MMT Monitor2Go HD+ 15.6" HDMI & USB Portable Monitor Review

I've been looking for a portable monitor for a while. I only had two requirements. 1) It had to be portable and 2) It needed to have an HDMI input. This is one of the few portable monitors out there that do. If anyone knows of an alternative, let me know.

I've plugged this in with the following equipment:
*Lenovo ThinkPad Twist (via HDMI and DisplayLink)
*iPad 4
*PlayStation 3
*Samsung BD-UP5000 1080p HD-DVD Blu-Ray Disc Combo Player
*Samsung Galaxy Note II, Titanium (Verizon Wireless) (requires Samsung Micro USB to HDMI 1080P HDTV Adapter Cable with 5 Pin to 11 Pin Micro-USB adapter for Samsung Galaxy S3, Note 2 and MHL-enabled Smartphones and Tablets)
*Roku 2 XS 1080p Streaming Player (with issues, see below)
*Apple TV MD199LL/A (3rd Gen)

Most of these devices were fine. The problems I had are listed in Cons below in order of importance to me.

Pros:
1) Portable
2) HDMI and DisplayLink inputs
3) Fits and works with my iPad 4 for most things...except that Amazon Instant Video can't be mirrored. :-p
4) Aesthetically pleasing in kickstand or laptop mode
5) Screen rotates 180 in either direction

Cons:
1) No built-in speakers. I don't like plugging in and removing 3.5mm adapters constantly from my devices. I might add a Bluetooth adapter to this or just use AirPlay on the iPad. Lastly, the audio output is fixed, therefore plugging in standard headphones will have a fixed volume. You'll need to buy headphones with volume control or get something like this: Koss VC20 Volume Control. Even cheap speakers are better than no speakers, but I assume that would have changed the aesthetics.
2) Brightness control is at the bottom and not convenient to reach. Buttons are also difficult to press.
3) I am running into problems playing videos with a Roku 2 XS. The screen drops the signal about once every second. This is an issue with Netflix and Amazon Instant Video. These are the only apps I tested. This is the information I got from MMT though I need to note that this is more of a problem on the Roku side. "The MHL connector on a Roku Streaming Stick may look like a HDMI interface at first glimpse, but it's actually a different technology." However, they mentioned that the Roku 3 addresses this issue.
4) With an iPad attached via the Apple Digital AV Adapter, I felt it is a tight fit when plugging in the Apple Lightning to USB Cable. This is only an issue when using the provided HDMI adapter plug. You can avoid it by using your own HDMI cable, but that's inconvenient, imo.
5) No battery pack option. Though I see it as Coming Soon on their website.

Other Thoughts:
The Netflix and nPlayer apps are what I use most often. Though I've been using the Video app more since iCloud streaming was enabled. Just a note that these are the only two apps that present videos in their proper aspect ratio. The other apps I use are Vudu, Flixster and CinemaNow and while mirroring is possible, the movies are letterboxed/pillarboxed (black bars all around). This is FYI and more of a problem with the apps. Though not ideal, if MMT added a Zoom option in addition to their 4:3/Full modes, then that would have been satisfactory.

FYI: You can get the following VESA mount for this which I had no idea about just looking at their official website. Available here: MMT VESA mounting bracket for Monitor2Go and Field Monitor Pro 15.6" portable monitors. My last concern is that I purchased this so close to unveiling of the iPad 5. Assuming I get one, my concern is how it's going to fit in the slot or if at all. Early leaks point to a smaller body and I hope that we'll be able to get an adapter frame of some sort. Just need to state that while I didn't get good news from MMT's Technical Support about the Roku, they were very helpful. I await their 3rd gen monitor and see what they can come up with.
