The Zeiss Terra ED 8x42 are an extremely capable binocular, and as good or better than anything else in this price range. Optically, while not a lot better than the competition, they are bright and sharp. The have excellent control of CA, a respectable field of view, and preform very well in adverse lighting conditions. They are also very well made, and this is the area that may make these the top choice in this price bracket. The focusing is fast and smooth. This is a very compact bin for an 8x42, and perfect for anyone with smaller hands. If you have larger hands, the strap lugs may be a little annoying, which are on the sides of the barrells, but this is not a big problem. If Zeiss can prove their quality control is better than the other "Made in China" brands, they will have hit a home run. For the price, you get a great pair of bins, along with the Zeiss name and Warranty. I have three sets and have tried one other, and all have been excellent. I highly recommend these to anyone wanting a quality birding/hunting binocular, but don't have, or want to spend, more money. To get a better preforming pair, you would have to spend $600+.
