Not every card is created equally. Anyone picking up an enthusiast card like this should know that. This XFX card is the only 7970 designed for certain systems. Is it better than others like Gigabyte, ASUS, Sapphire, etc.? Possibly, but as said, it depends on your system. Explained below.

Compared to the Sapphire Dual card:
- Heatsinks run parallel with the long length of the card. This makes the card ideal for cases with rotated boards like the Silverstone Fortress/Raven series as it lets the vertical air flow pass through the card easily.
- The XFX only takes up 2 slots whereas the Sapphire takes up 2.5.

Compared to the Gigabyte WindForce card:
- XFX heatsink runs parallel with the long length of the card. Gigabyte runs perpendicular. This makes the Gigabyte a poor choice for rotated systems.
- Both only take up 2 slots.

Compared to the ASUS DCU:
- To be honest, nothing is similar besides the card itself. ASUS is bigger (3 slots), cools better, and has perpendicular heat sinks. It's really designed for single card/spaced out 2 card systems.

Other:
- The PCB is a reference design so if you eventually choose to water cool it, nearly every waterblock vendor offers full cover 7970 blocks for a reference PCB. EK makes some nice ones.

Notes:
- If you are running a rotated board and plan on stacking cards, get this one.
- If you are running a rotated board and don't plan on stacking cards next to each other, get the Sapphire.
- If you are running a normal board and plan on stacking cards, get the Gigabyte.
- If you are running a normal board and don't plan on stacking cards next to each other, get the ASUS DCU.

Other:
- This thing has a really nice premium feel to it. I have a few of the Sapphire and albeit nice and big that's all they were. This XFX though has a full metal design (I thought it was plastic in the picture). Nope, that case around the fans is solid metal. Holy **** does it look nice.
- MSI used to make a great card (Lightning was one of the best) but it doesn't seem like it's readily available anymore.
