QNIX QX2710 LED Evolution ll 27" 27 inch 2560x1440 Samsung PLS (LG IPS) Glossy Screen Panel PC Monitor Review

I have always been a user of the typical TN panel ranging from all types of sizes. My previous display was an Asus model which had a very fast refresh rate of 2ms alongside unnoticeable input lag. I did find myself trying to calibrate the monitor to look at least nearly as good as my Samsung HDTV, but that was impossible. Colors either became over saturated or unnatural in tone. Also there was a sort of slight distortion to the image caused by the coating on the panel. I then began to just suck it up and realize this monitor is simply not engineered for color accuracy and clarity, but rather for hardcore gamers who need the insane response times. Later on, I upgraded to the Dell S2740L. This is a 1080p IPS monitor that immediately struck me with its level of clarity and color accuracy that was before me thanks to IPS technology. Unfortunately, at 27" along with the typical viewing distance of a PC monitor, the image really didn't have that crisp and sharp look that my Asus gave me. It was until I sat unnaturally far back that the 1080p resolution was fine. The keyboard and mouse then became out of reach...

So my search continued and I stumbled upon 1440p 27" monitors. Then I came across this craze of Korean based monitors utilizing panels found in far more expensive units that were simply not 100% quality assured. Skeptic, I did my research and read, read, and read until my eyes bled. Then I did it; I clicked "confirm purchase". Amazingly, the monitor took just 1 day to arrive to my house from Korea, which 'till this day, I don't know how on Earth that was possible especially since the shipping was free. The packaging was pretty straight forward providing the monitor with adequate protection to insure it won't arrive as useful as a broom stick.

Then I plugged it in and turned on my desktop... How is this $329? The image quality was absolutely jaw dropping. The image was crisp and sharp thanks to the higher PPI. No over saturation of colors or gamma deterioration. Everything just had a sense of depth and smoothness that I can only describe as looking through a window toward what lies beyond. I then attempted to overclock the monitor's refresh rate and push it to 120Hz which was a successful procedure, but I ended up going back to 60Hz because the quality degradation though not significant deterred me away. Once again, I cannot stress the level of clarity and sense of realism this monitor provides. These panels use Samsung's PLS technology which by their word, gives a better color reproduction than IPS. Compared to my Dell S2740L, the Qnix is a bit better in color accuracy and saturation levels. Overall, it's alot better especially due to the higher PPI. The build quality for this monitor is average. The panel is enclosed in a sort of generic case that doesn't look bad nor spectacular. In terms of aesthetics, the Dell wins here easily. The connections on this monitor is highly limited with only a DC in from the power brick, dual link DVI in from your GPU and a 3.5mm input to power the abomination that is inside this monitor. Oh wait, they call them speakers? The stand is also a bit unsecure and the monitor does wobble or tilt easily if the surface that it resides upon is bumped. The main thing that really sets the panel that is found in these Korean monitors aside from the ones found in a Dell, Apple, Samsung, etc... is the amount of dead pixels and/or the level of screen uniformity with back light bleeding. There are sellers (primarily on eBay) that guarantees a pixel perfect display with a extra fee, but I'm not sure if they can guarantee a back light bleed free display. My display has a slight leakage of back light on the typical bottom left side of the screen that really only shows it self on completely black images. In terms of dead pixels, I have only one that I forgot where it was.

In conclusion, this monitor is well worth its asking price and will provide a whole new experience to your personal computing. Just make sure your GPU has either a dual link DVI-I or DVD-D connection. DVI-I simply means both analog and digital can be transported through the connection and DVI-D means that only digital can be transported. Single link DVI-D or DVI-I will NOT work with this monitor.

Pro's:

- Amazing picture quality
- Bang For Buck is through the roof
- Can be pushed to 96-120Hz quite easily ( picture quality does suffer )
- VESA mount capable
- 27 inches of Quad HD goodness
- Did I mention amazing picture quality?

Con's:

- May get a monitor with excessive back light bleeding or high amounts of dead pixels if you don't narrow down good sellers.
- Warranty experience may be a nightmare ( oversea shipping )
- Horrible internal speakers
- Limited connections ( no gaming consoles allowed, period )
