Product Description

The Amazon-exclusive Schecter Damien Special in Crimson Red is loaded with features usually not found at this price point. With a Black Pearloid flame inlay, black chrome hardware and EMG active pickups, this is a guitar that looks as great as it sounds.

Features

Grover ROTOMATICS Tuners with 18:1 Gear Ratio (102-18 series)

The original Rotomatic® with an improved higher ratio gearing. The 18:1 ratio provides for finer tuning and greater stability. The finer gears provide smoother tuning and a higher degree of backlash elimination.

Rosewood Fingerboard

Rosewood is naturally oily, and works well for any surface that sees frequent human contact. The sound is richer in fundamental than Maple because stray overtones are absorbed into the oily pores.

EMG Active 81/85 Pickups

One of the most popular EMG s the 81 is the one that started a revolution. Utilizing powerful ceramic magnets and close aperture coils, the tone was designed with detailed intensity, incredible amounts of high end cut and fluid sustain. Traditionally used in the bridge position, this pickup will make your leads slice right through even the densest mix. When used in both neck and bridge positions the sound can only be described as blistering. Recommended pairings include the classic 81/85 setup.

Maple Neck

Maple has a uniform grain, it s strong and stable, and it has less reaction from environmental changes than other hardwoods. Its tone is highly reflective, and focuses more energy onto the body wood. Maple transfers a bright tone to the body which complements the warm tones of a mahogany body.

Schecter Damien Special Electric Guitar - Crimson Red Review

The quality on this guitar is beautiful. Period. The quilted maple top and black/white binding are stunning, and even the grain and finish on the mahogany back and sides is tight and attractive. My specimin arrived with a near-perfect setup - low action and just a hint of relief in the one piece unfinished neck. The fret ends are perfectly finished and there are no sharp edges anywhere. The hardware feels top-notch and the EMG pickups produce a clean ringing sustain that suits a wide variety of music styles. Even the strings that came on the guitar (Ernie Ball Premium) are fresh and good quality. New guitars in this price range often come with cheap strings that turn your fingertips black, and this was not an issue even after an hour of playing.

The flame inlay on the neck might make a difference to some buyers. While I really like it, it's not exactly conservative. The inlay on mine is a dark/medium gray that looks more like smoke than flames. I'm pretty sure it's 'Mother of Toilet Seat' and not pearl or abalone. Since the flames are dark on a dark wood fretboard, you can't really see the inlay pattern in playing position. Also, there's no logic to the pattern that indicates the 3,5,7,9 and 12 fret positions. The neck side markers are small white dots on the dark fretboard edge, and they do the trick. But I found myself having to concentrate a little more to see these side markers when moving around, which is something you do subconciously when you have larger dot or block markers on the fretboard. From a design standpoint, the dark inlay looks very cool with the blackout EMG active pickups and gunmetal mirrored knobs, bridge and grover tuners.

Just added: This guitar fits very well in my Fender Tele/Strat molded hardshell case. Definite bonus. (I wish guitar manufacturers would tell you if a model fits a 'standard' design case.)

This appears to be a discontinued model, and is not on the Schecter website. Who cares? That makes it an instant classic! "Crafted in Indonesia" is subtlely and tastefully printed under the serial number on the back of the headstock, and the guitar sports a solid metal neck plate that boasts Schecter's California USA heritage and makes it look like a custom shop guitar. This is a beautifully made instrument being offered at Amazon for an uncanny low price. Get 'em while they got 'em!
